The 2016 Web & Mobile program is set to start in late March. Since the launch of the first program in 2012, Rockstart Accelerator has accelerated 58 companies, 71% of which have received follow-on funding. Together the companies have raised more than €29 million and created over 400+ full-time jobs.
Yes. Probably your investor(s) would like you to join an accelerator because they know this way you will get the best support to grow your business. Seed investors often spend time to coach companies in their portfolio, but Rockstart Accelerator with our mentor, partner and peer network can provide you with intensive, all-round support to grow your business and raise follow on funding. Every company is different. It’s all about what you need. We have companies which received funding before the program and still took great advantage of it. The program is open to all companies that are in a startup phase – that is during their first 3 years. The accelerator can help you bring your startup to the next level, open doors that have remained closed, help you with your PR, rethink your business approach base on your current experience and make sure you lay the foundation for growth. Often a startup grows fast at the beginning only to find out they cannot manage this growth. This accelerator helps you to prepare for that. We tailor the program to the needs of the 10 selected startups.
If your team is dedicated to turn your startup into a high-growth company, Rockstart Accelerator is your opportunity to push your startup forward. We connect you to 100 of the brightest entrepreneurial minds in the web & mobile industry, experts and executives. We provide you with seed funding, inspiring office space in central Amsterdam together with 50 international startups, access to experts and corporate executives, industry event visits, investor dinners, and all necessary tools to grow your startup.
You need to have at least a team of two people to be able to join the program. It is difficult enough to build and grow a business, so you should at least have a partner to be able to make it a success. During the selection period the team aspect is key to the selection process. You should complement each other and have good dynamics to be successful. However, we realize it is quite difficult to find the right partner. If you are convinced that your startup should be part of the program, we recommend that you apply! We might be able to help you find the right partner. That said, your team should at least be ready before we invite you for selection days.
When invited to our program you will receive €15,000 in cash for which we receive an equity stake of 8% in return. We will give our all to make your startup work, alongside your other co-founders. You can call on us for any business-related matter before, during and after the program.
We believe that the power of a great team is number one in building a successful company. Since our program is extremely intense, it requires our teams to give their absolute best. For that reason it’s important that you have a strong basis (skill set, track record, motivation, resilience). At this stage of your company business concepts and models will most likely change, but your team is the core and main driver of your startup. A deep understanding of the problem you are tackling and experience in the industry/space are also very important points when looking at a team.
We’re also looking for innovation. It doesn’t mean that you have to come up with a totally original idea, but your execution of that idea has to be unique. We’re looking to disrupt industries with the startups we work with.
As we’re looking for the most promising startups, we don’t care where you’re from in the world as long as you can get here by the start of the program.
In order for us to help you get the most out of the program, we’re primarily looking for startups that have developed at least a MVP (minimal viable product). If your idea is still on the back of a napkin at the moment, we would suggest you to go to your next Startup Weekend or Startup Next and test it out. Just as long as you have a business vision by the end of our application process in December, we’d love to hear your idea. However, given the fact that we generally receive a lot of applications we do look for and prefer customers, users and (some) traction.
Rockstart Accelerator is based in the heart of the startup hub Amsterdam. Known for its entrepreneurial climate, open lifestyle, and central location, it is a great place for any startup to grow internationally.
No. We welcome all startups from across the globe, as long as they can legally work in Amsterdam for the full duration of the program. If you are outside of the EU, we will assist you in getting the right paperwork.
In order for startups to benefit the most from all program elements, we require all founders to live and work in / around Amsterdam for the full duration of the 150-day program. Our team will assist you in finding housing in Amsterdam.
Yes. Having several founders does not stop you from qualifying for the program. In saying this, we don’t recommend teams of more than 5 founders.
As much as we believe in lean startup principles, your startup may need additional funding in order to grow. Over the last two years, 80% of our companies received follow on funding. During the program we will be connecting you to investors (primarily angels), so you can start building relationships. We also host a Demo Day. This gives other angels and later stage investors a first taste of what you have been working on.
On Demo Day, we will be inviting 300+ people, including national and international investors (VCs and angels), mentors, and press for you to pitch your startup to. In addition, we take our teams for 3-weeks International Programs twice a year. Here, our teams will have the chance to pitch to international VCs and angels.
We believe in getting the best out of every situation. All the decisions made for your company from start to end will be yours and only yours. We’ll help guide you through the pitfalls and hurdles of the entrepreneur life, but we’re not here to run your startup.
We are not in the business of stealing ideas. We can assure you that any idea that gets sent through our application process is only for the purpose of evaluating your startup. That means we won’t share your idea with anyone, even if they ask really nicely.
Yes. As long as you’re not outsourcing unique business elements that add value to the heart of your startup, we will accept minor outsourcing. We believe in teams able to execute but sometimes you don’t have the complete skillset in place yet. Do keep in mind that the team plays an essential role in the selection process.
Applying for Rockstart Accelerator is easy. Just complete and submit our online application form on this page during the application period. We don’t require you to hand in a business plan.
The selection process consists of 3 rounds. We will inform all startups timely on their advancement to the next round. By mid-February 2016 we will notify you whether you have been selected for the program. This gives you another 2 weeks to pack, say goodbye, and move to Amsterdam.
