Rockstart announces its fresh batch of Web & Mobile startups
Amsterdam—March 14, 2017—Rockstart, one of Europe’s first multi-vertical startup accelerators, announces its latest batch of startups entering the Web & Mobile program. The 150-day long program will help startups to fine-tune their businesses and help them to scale. This year marks the 6th edition of the Rockstart Web & Mobile program, which has already seen 50 startups go through it. Recently one of the Web & Mobile alumni, Undeveloped, was acquired by Epik.com, one of the top players on the domain names market.
“I’m very excited to work with these 10 great companies in the coming months,” said the Program Director Rutger van Waveren. “We see some trends in the startups that we select. First, there are startups with clear traction, six of the ten already make (serious) revenue, for example. Their challenge is to turn that momentum into increasing growth. Second, we see AI and Machine Learning everywhere, from understanding ambiguous data to interpreting languages. And lastly, the entrepreneurial spirit of the founders is better than ever. It is the people that define the success of a startup, and I’m very confident about the teams that are in the current accelerator program.”
The Web & Mobile program kicks off this week and will run until the beginning of August, with a Demo Day scheduled on June 8. Ten participating startups get a €15,000 investment in cash, more than €500,000 worth of perks and discounts from the program partners, access to a network of over 200 investors, and office space in the heart of Amsterdam. They are also backed by a team of over 100 mentors. In return, Rockstart gets an 8 percent equity stake per startup.
The program of 2017 is launched together with a group of partners committed to strengthening the startup ecosystem by bringing in skills, expertise, and resources. As legal partners, Benvalor & VBC Notarissen guide the startups in the process of setting up their business and legal structures. Burst will teach startups how to work with data and analytics to turn it into actionable insights that benefit their growth. Elevate Consulting Group plays an important role in the selection of the startups and helps the teams to optimize their performance by understanding each other better and work on their strengths and weaknesses. As sponsor and partner from the very beginning of the program, Rabobank provides the startups with financial advice and guidance as well as access to their extensive network. Finally, UGOO helps startups to find R&D subsidies to help them grow and achieve their ambitions.

More than 230 million children under the age of five worldwide are unregistered, of which 71 million are in India alone. As required by Target 16.9 of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, states should ensure universal free birth registration and guarantee that the birth of every child on their national territory is registered immediately. Without a birth certificate children lack access to education, healthcare, and mobility. They become invisible. By leveraging the blockchain technology, TYKN developed a tool that allows trusted users like midwives and doctors to register the birth of the child (a proof of birth) on an immutable, decentralized, and permanent record keeper. Participants are always able to verify the proof of birth, instantly, with a simple drag-and-drop action via the tool provided by TYKN. ZINC 2020—Zero Invisible Children by 2020—is the startup’s mission.
