This year the quality of the teams and the diversity of backgrounds was considerably higher than of those in 2012; more than 400 startups from 60 different countries applied to be a part of Rockstart Accelerator 2013.
The selection of the 10 teams was done quite differently this year; it was partly open to the Rockstart community that got to know the finalist teams during Selection Days – our two-day event that took place in Amsterdam on February 14 and 15, 2013. The 25 finalist startups joined us in Amsterdam to pitch in front more than 70 mentors as well as our investor committee. On February 14 the startups got to know most of our mentors and got individual feedback covering all the aspects of their company (legal, finance, business, tech etc.). The second day, in a closed setting startups gave their final pitch in front of a seven-member jury. The selection of the 10 startups was finalized after the final talks with the teams one week after.
“We’re continuously looking to raise the bar at Rockstart Accelerator, from the extensive first information the startups needed to send us, to the final two days of selection: everything was more intense, more challenging for the startups, but also more personal: we took a lot more time to get to know the teams well. We’re very excited because we have a very talented, driven and intelligent group of entrepreneurs this year: you’re going to hear a lot more about them” says Don Ritzen, co-founder and CEO of Rockstart Accelerator.
Rockstart Accelerator 2013 takes off in less than two weeks! We have a fresh program, a new location, a group of skillful and experienced mentors and inspiring partners, and now we’ve just got 10 great startups to complete the set.
We’re ready to go!
