Eric Postma is a professor in Artificial Intelligence. He is specialised in image processing, signal processing, affective computing, and deep learning. His best-known project is on the automatic analysis of paintings by Van Gogh in close collaboration with the Van Gogh Museum and the MoMa. Using advanced image analysis methods, Postma developed systems for determining the author of artworks. Currently, he is focusing on the analysis of human non-verbal behaviour (i.e., vocal and facial expressions) to automatically infer various aspects of pictures and videos of humans.
